UMass guard Gary Correia transfers to BU

According to the Northstar basketball blog, point guard Gary Correia has received his release from the University of Massachusetts and has committed to Boston University. Correia, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard originally from Providence, R.I., averaged 11 minutes per game and 2.2 points per game and 1.2 assists per game in his sophomore season. He will sit out a year and have two years of eligibility with BU under new head coach Patrick Chambers.

Any truth to the rumor BU also got a commit from Patrick Hazel and also a guard from Lasalle?

I've heard rumblings about Hazel, but nothing confirmed yet... nothing about a guard from LaSalle either. Would make sense, though, given then Philly connections.

Any details on them?

This transfer makes a lot of sense (well, maybe not for UMass, but you know what I mean). Correia has to sit out a year but will be able to play in 2010-2011 after Lowe/Morris/Strong graduate and Chambers picks up a recruit on short notice.

I wouldn't read into Correia's stat line too much -- IIRC, he was stuck behind Chris Lowe last year. When he's eligible here he should get minutes.

I've heard similar rumblings about Hazell as well, but nothing I can confirm.

Jeff Goodman at foxsports.com confirmed that Partin, the guard from LaSalle is coming to BU.

Word around BU is that Hazell was on his official visit last weekend and committed shortly after.
