Thursday's games:
Maine 126, Maine-Presque Isle 50
There's not much to draw from a blowout win against a Division-III opponent. Maine took care of business in a game where the Black Bears led 11-0 two minutes in, 36-12, 10 minutes in, and 69-24 at halftime. Eight Black Bears scored in double figures as Maine out-rebounded its opponent by 42 and enjoyed a +16 turnover differential. While none of this says anything of substance about Maine's ability to defeat Division-I opponents beyond what we've already seen from them this season, a 76-point win is certainly better than a close game or a loss in this instance.
Hartford 97, Lafayette 82
The Hawks' porous defense didn't necessarily shine in all areas against Lafayette (2-5), but Hartford's offense proved to be more than capable of carrying the day. Joe Zeglinski and Michael Turner led all scorers with 26 points apiece. The Hawks duo provided all the offense in a key 11-3 run, turning a 41-40 Lafayette lead into a 51-43 Hartford lead at halftime. Zeglinski also hit a pair of threes midway through the second half as part of a later spurt to put the Leopards away. Hartford (3-5) experienced more of the same difficulties with field-goal percentage defense, as the visiting Leopards shot 50 percent from two-point and three-point range, but the Leopards -11 turnover deficit ultimately proved decisive.
